Diversity Gradient

Diversity Gradient

Species diversity dramatically goes up as one travels from the Earth’s poles (low diversity) to the equator (high diversity). With this intensification of diversity, the species populations become much smaller, more isolated and increasingly susceptible to rapid environmental changes. Human caused impacts are devastating these small populations of species in the equatorial regions. They’re disappearing rapidly, some without ever being discovered. Unless we quell these escalating human caused trends of harmful species migration, atmospheric CO2, weather changes, increasing temperatures and ocean acidification, humans will witness massive species extinctions.

This is the first in a series of “Diversity Gradients”.
